Ingredients

  • 5 pounds meat, beef, pork, or ham
  • 3 to 4 eggs, depending on size
  • 3 to 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 large green pepper
  • ½ cup rice, not precooked
  • 1 teaspoon salt per pound of meat
  • Pepper to taste
  • Cabbage leaves

Instructions

  1. Boil cabbage leaves until softened enough to roll.
  2. Mix meat, eggs, garlic, onion, green pepper, rice, salt, and pepper together.
  3. Form meat mixture into balls or logs.
  4. Place each portion of meat mixture into a cabbage leaf and roll up, tucking in the sides.
  5. Place cabbage rolls seam-side down in a large baking dish or pot.
  6. Cover with tomato sauce, tomato juice, or a thin tomato soup mixture.
  7. Bake covered at 350° for about 1 ½ to 2 hours, or simmer gently on the stovetop for about 1 ½ to 2 hours, until the meat and rice are fully cooked.

Notes

The card only gives instructions through rolling the filling into cabbage leaves. The cooking method, tomato sauce covering, temperature, and timing are assumed based on traditional stuffed cabbage rolls.
