Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 cake moist yeast, or dry yeast
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 3 cups flour, plus more for kneading/shaping

Instructions

  1. Mix in saucepan: milk, sugar, salt, and shortening.
  2. Scald mixture and cool.
  3. Add yeast and beaten egg.
  4. Stir in 3 cups flour. Cover and let rise until double.
  5. With a little flour on fingers, make into rolls or cut with biscuit cutter.
  6. Let rise.
  7. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes.
